EURES

EURES (European Employment Services)

The main task of the EURES (EURopean Employment Services) network is to facilitate the free movement of workers within the European Economic Area (EU countries, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) and Switzerland and to ensure equal opportunities for all Union citizens through the gradual unification of labour law legislation.

The EURES network consists of advisers trained by the European Commission, who provide comprehensive assistance, information, counselling and job placement services to jobseekers in Europe. The EURES network offers professional guidance and recruitment assistance to European employers interested in workers from EU/EEA countries and Switzerland.

The EURES network launched its activities in Slovakia on May 1, 2004, when the Slovak Republic became a member of the European Union. The EURES network services are provided by EURES advisers or EURES contact persons at all 46 Offices of Labour, Social Affairs and Family.

EURES plays an irreplaceable role in cross-border regions, where, in addition to standard services, it mainly provides advice on the rights and obligations of cross-border workers who work in one Member State but live in a neighbouring country to which they return daily or at least once a week.

What does EURES offer?

EURES offers to its clients an EU-wide database of verified job vacancies, information on living and working conditions in EU/EEA countries, the situation on the European labour market, registration procedures, taxes, social and health security, professional advice on CV creation and job search in the destination country. All this information is available on www.eures.sk and www.eures.europa.eu websites.

Registration is possible on both portals, but it is not a condition for using network services. However, making a candidate's CV available to registered employers on the European portal significantly increases the chance of being successfully placed on the European labour market.

The portal of international online job fairs www.europeanjobdays.eu offers a virtual space for connecting employers with jobseekers. The registration is free of charge, as well as participation in individual events organized by the EURES network. After creating a personal profile, job seekers can participate in selected job fairs and job interviews with employers.
