I have terminated my employment abroad, do I have to register?

Registration with the Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family (hereinafter referred to as  "the Office") is voluntary; the citizen is not statutorily obliged to be on the Jobseekers Register but, as a voluntarily unemployed person, is obliged to pay his/her health insurance.

Where a EU citizen wishes to register with the Office after termination of employment in any of the Member States of the EU, he/she must file the application for registration in the Jobseekers Register to the Office in the territorial district of his/her permanent residence. The completed E 301 has to be supplied with the application  - a form to be issued by the competent unemployment insurance institution, or an institution designated by the competent authorities of the country and confirming the kind of job, profession and duration worked by the citizen in the relevant Member State of the EU  (E 301 form is submitted also after termination of employment in the Czech Republic).

If the EU citizen files for registration in the Jobseekers Register within 7 calendar days of the date of employment termination in a Member State of the EU and submits the completed E 301 form, he/she shall be entered in the register from the day following the date of termination of employment in the Member State of the EU.  

If the EU citizen files for registration and fails to supply the completed E 301 form, he/she shall be entered in the register from the date of his/her personal submission of the application.   

E 301 form can be supplied to the Office also at a later date  (this fact has to be notified to the Office when filing the application).
